CTG Safeguards Dam Operations with Huawei Cloud

The China Three Gorges Group (CTG) has leveraged Huawei Cloud Stack to deploy a single, unified cloud for the entire group.

Challenges

Scattered Infrastructure Platforms

CTG deployed multiple infrastructure platforms along the way at different stages of development.

These platforms made it hard to balance resource usage, upgrade architectures, and centralize management.

Dispersed IT/OT Data

Power stations managed by CTG are dispersed across multiple provinces.

IT and OT data could not be easily shared across different systems.

Experience Not Consolidated

Experience could not be consolidated when there was staff turnover. They needed big data models.

Solutions

Solutions
  • Deploy a Single, Unified Cloud for the Entire Group

In line with requirements for unified planning, easy sharing, and centralized deployment,

CTG enlisted the help of Huawei Cloud Stack to deploy a single, unified cloud for the entire group.

  • Enable Unified Data Convergence

The data governance center, DataArts Studio, from Huawei Cloud helps CTG rise to the data challenge.

It accesses statistics collected from underwater robots, generator sets, and motor rotors of power stations at the edge.

  • Create a Real-time Data Lake

Huawei Cloud's FusionInsight MRS provides CTG with a real-time data lake.

It delivers correlation and convergence analysis for all of CTG's data and helps create big data models and analytics applications for power generation.

MRS has helped CTG digitize applications for O&M and decision-making on the industrial Internet platform.

Benefits

Robust Digital Infrastructure

The single, unified cloud deployed across the entire group has centralized cloud resource provisioning and provided efficient data analytics and governance.

It provides a robust resource and data foundation for digital transformation of CTG.

Numerous IT/OT Data Assets Converged Across Regions

100 GB of data included in more than 5,000 tables from over 60 data sources has been connected to the cloud, and turned into 3,000 data assets in more than 50 categories.

The numerous data assets facilitate real-time service data analytics for 11 major applications including operations, device maintenance, and production at power stations.

Pre-warnings and Higher Efficiency

O&M and decision-making on the industrial Internet platform have never been so intelligent.

The platform can identify a falling fuel level for a thrust bearing 10 days in advance.

Plus, data analysis reports can be automatically generated, which results in a 9-fold improvement in efficiency.
